Horizontal Directional Drilling

Gebr. Van Leeuwen Boringen offers mini, midi and maxi-rigs available for the directional drilling of diameters ranging from 25 mm to 1300 mm. All known pipe materials can be used, such as steel, polyethylene (PE) and nodular cast iron.

Horizontal Directional Drilling

Drilling with our own remote-controlled machines enables us to deliver very precise, curved trajectories for the trenchless installation of cables and pipes over longer distances. Horizontal Directional Drilling machinery remains above ground and does not require construction pits or disruption of natural groundwater levels. Both above- and underground infrastructure as well as the ecological environment are completely spared.

Our rigs are enable us to drill diameters ranging from 25 mm to 1300 mm. All known pipe materials can be used, such as steel, polyethylene (PE) and nodular cast iron.

Measurements

During the pilot drilling Gebr. van Leeuwen continuously performs survey measurements. These measurements are carried out the traditional ‘walk-over system’ way or by use of a wire-bound measuring system linked to a computer program, depending on the depth and the accessibility of the route, the degree of difficulty of the drill, and the client’s requirements.

We also use the latest and most advanced system of surveying measurements, an optical gyroscope, linked to a computer program. The probe, placed directly behind the drill head measures the three corners of the drill head in relation to the geographic north. Special software processes the data into drill head positions and compares these with calculated positions and the desired trajectory of the drill.
